15 April Band Bulletin

Rehearsal Schedule

Hi Folks, I hope this bulletin finds everyone doing well and not yet affected by the virus. We had a board meeting via ZOOM on Tuesday and here are some of the highlights. Some of you have asked me what we will keep from the Spring concert and use in the Fall. Those pieces would be, Silver Celebration, Children’s March, American Salute (probably). Ryan and I continue to have conversations about this. Our concern of course, is that no one knows when we will be able to return to a rehearsal situation, so planning a program is a challenge. One thing we have concluded is that we will include some music chosen for the purpose of getting us back in shape and returning us to the fundamentals of ensemble playing, i.e. blend, balance, intonation. Also, regarding keeping in shape, I suspect that most of you are tired of reviewing the music in your folder and would like some new stuff. Therefore I would recommend that you go to the IMSLP website, (just Google it). Then open the Free Downloads, or Public Domain site. In the search bar just type instruments books, i.e. Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet etc. Some instruments will have several books you can use, and some only have a few, but they all have something. If you are unsure about what you might want, just open each and check them out, or contact some of the folks in your section such as Michael, Lois, Deb, Ray, Allison, Ryan, Kim, Jan, etc. Michael has listed several downloads for various woodwind instruments, but some of these will also work for brass, such as the bassoon studies, which will work for trombone and euphonium (BC), some of the ww studies will also work for trumpet, and euphonium TC.

Helaine has found a youtube channel called Color is the Piano, which has various tunes that are similar to the old Music Minus One series. I would encourage everyone to check out these sites to find new and more challenging music.

Jenn Monaghan has decided to step down from her position of Librarian of the band. I want to thank her for the many years she has served. Michael has also asked me to announce that this position is open, if someone is interested.

If you have been affected by the virus, or are just in need of talking with someone from the band all board members have indicated that they would be happy to speak with you. Just reach out to any of us and we’ll do what we can. Meanwhile, stay healthy.
